Could Tablets like the iPad be the Future of Print Media?
1/31/10 Update: I just read that the new iPads don't support Adobe Flash (no video images). Click here to read the article from Merinews.com. That changes everything for me. Until they do, I won't consider investing in this. As always, another company will surely come along and develop something just like it that will support Flash.

I have to admit, I am a technology geek. Apple has now come out with the Ipad which looks really cool. It isn't the first attempt at a tablet but this one looks really advanced in functionality. I'll have to be patient to read all the consumer reviews once they're out in the market for a while before I make a final buying decision.

Also, here is video of the rescue of a woman who survived 6 days under the rubble. Absolutely amazing! I'm hoping to see many more of these stories. Believe in miracles!
Social Networking Paying Off Big for Haiti Relief Efforts
It's awesome how Social Networking sites like Twitter and Facebook are helping people stay connected. In many cases texting has been the only thing to work since phone land lines are down and with poor cell signals. Donations via texting have been huge...with over $10 million dollars raised so far.

"Miracle on the Hudson" One-Year Reunion
This has to be one of the best stories of 2009. God Bless Captain Sully and his crew!
(CBS) "It was one year ago that Capt. Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger landed US Airways flight 1549 safely in New York's Hudson River -- saving 155 lives."
"As it flew 3,000 feet over one of the most densely populated areas of the planet, a flock of geese struck the plane, causing it to lose all power. Sullenberger was faced with a possible catastrophe."
"With brains and courage, the seasoned pilot brought his plane down -- and kept it intact -- on the river's frigid waters."
"Sullenberger told CBS' 60 Minutes, 'I think, in many ways, as it turned out, my entire life up to that moment had been a preparation to handle that particular moment.'"
"In a matter of minutes, the plane was evacuated, and ferry boats and first responders rushed to the scene. Not one person was killed."
"The crew and passengers of flight 1549 forged a bond that day that's still strong."
"And on Early Show Friday, the passengers, crew and first responders came together again one year later to remember the day that truly proved to be a 'Miracle on the Hudson.' "
"Sullenberger told Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith it feels like much less than a year since it happened. 'I feel like I've lived 10 normal lifetimes in this last year,' Sullenberger said."

7.0 Earthquake Hits Haiti
Less than 24 hours ago a massive 7.0 earthquake hit Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. The conditions are horrific for millions of people there. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Haiti and to their family and friends who are living here in the U.S. or in other parts of the world.
Here are before and after photos of Haiti's Presidential Palace.
I made a donation by texting "Yele" to 501501. Along with your prayers, text and show your support. $5 will go to www.yele.org and charged to your phone bill. Yele Haiti is a movement led by Wyclef Jean that will help with relief efforts due to the earthquake.
A Fun & Healthy New Year's Resolution
I had to chuckle after seeing this story. I always knew that sex was good exercise but finding out that 3 times per week is the equivalent calorie burn of running 7 miles in a month is great news! ;)
What a Difference a Decade Makes
When is the last time you used a public telephone booth, a telephone book, or read a newspaper?
A lot has changed over the past decade and it all has to do with technology.
My First Website - Sitecube.com vs. Wix.com
Do you have a digital footprint on the World Wide Web? The best way to find out is to Google your name.
It was recommended to me that I continue my efforts to brand "me". So, after several tries I have completed building and have published my first personal website!
Initially I built one through Sitecube.com. There is a trial period of 10 days, then you must either buy a monthly plan or lose the site you built. There were over 300 templates to choose from, and it was fairly easy to build, but it had very limited editing ability. Text is pretty much the only thing you can edit. You can upload pics and videos but they all have to go in designated areas of one of their supplied templates. You can set up a personal domain webpage but there is a setup fee of $30 and then $14.75/mo for 5GB of bandwidth per month for a 5 page website.
Here is a recording of what I started to build through them.

After comparing and reading reviews on a few other sites, I decided to go with my sister's suggestion of Wix.com.
With Wix there is no trial period...you create unlimited websites with unlimited pages on them for FREE and store them on their site. However, the websites will have advertising and promotional links embedded. These ads do not take away from the overall look of the site, but are not 100% professional looking for an online business. I'm thinking that for now this will be fine for me and my current budget since my site will be used mainly as a personal bio.
I like Wix better for obvious reasons. There is much more creative freedom than with Sitecube. I could create from one of their templates or do it completely from scratch. There are several different fonts available and special effects that you can use on fonts or pics. You can imbed video, social media widgets, and move things around wherever you want them. Once you finish it, publish it for free on the Wix.com server.
If I decide to get my own personal domain, Wix will provide it and host my website for $14.90/mo with unlimited bandwidth and with no set up fee. There would be no Wix ads on the site and I would have E-commerce ability. There are also lower plans of $9.90/mo for 1GB of bandwidth and $4.95/mo for 500MB of bandwidth.
